As part of our efforts at generating solutions for various industry challenges, Perchstone & Graeys has, over the years, held an Annual Law Series with a focus on a diverse range of local and international themes primarily concerned with creating a better understanding between the business community and leaders of government; a forum designed to stimulate the exchange of ideas and knowledge on law and public policy. Originally conceived as part of the activities to mark the tenth anniversary of our firm and the opening of our purpose built office; the enthusiastic response from the audience convinced us of the desirability of making our Annual Law Series (ALS) an annual, non-paying event.

The primary focus of the ALS remains to be a platform for the creation of a deeper understanding between the business community, the Bar and leaders of government. Since its inception in 2007, the event has attracted a rich assortment of globally recognised speakers and continues to attract a distinguished spread of both local and international participants from the public and private sectors such as Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State,Mr. Stephane Brabant a partner with Herbert Smith LLP; Mr. Ismail Radwan of the World Bank; Professor Graham Penn, a partner with Sidley Austin LLP; Mr. Vinod Kothari, a consultant on Securitization and author; Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, OFR, the Minister of National Planning and Deputy Chairman of the National Planning Commission; Dr. Emmanuel Egbogha, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum; Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association; Ms. Bolanle Onagoruwa, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises; Mrs. Ifueko Omogui-Okauru, the former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service; Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, the Deputy Governor of the CBN, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, SAN, the former Petroleum Minister, Mr. Tonye Cole, the Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, Mr. Mahesh Sachdev, the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Prof. Jayanth Krishnan of the Indiana University, Mr. Sitesh Murkherjeeof Trilegal; Professor Yinka Omorogbe, former Company Secretary, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Ambassador Mahesh Sachdev, former High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, and several others.

In time, we focused on a diverse range of themes primarily concerned with creating a better understanding between the Law, the business community and leaders of government. We have always sought to create a credible private sector platform for the diffusion of ideas pertaining to Law, Public Policy and Commerce. A key high point of the Law Series arose from proceedings of the 2008 edition in which we subsequently provided leadership to a stakeholders committee which authored a draft Securitization Bill for the consideration of the National Assembly. In 2013 we took the ALS abroad, in recognition of the global dimensions of the issues to be deliberated upon and opportunities between the sectors.
